Boys like him make love out of nothing very fast,
Leaving people behind is what he does for a living,
It pays handsomely but it doesn’t last,
His fingers are limousines, his lips are hotels,
He confuses you with some Dutch girl called Gabrielle,
He swears you’re the core of his flame,
But he’s mistaken your Christian name.

He’s only a shell of the man that I am.

And me I’m too far gone tonight,
You must put me to bed now and shoot out the lights,
We’ll meet holding flowers, pull over the covers,
Haul up the anchor, darling love one another,
Say goodbye to sadness, girl he’s held you long enough,
And anyone can tell you that in this world
You’ve got to be more than just strong enough,
His lustre will tarnish,
His charms will diminish,
Flames such as his soon are extinguished.
You don’t have to kiss his hand,
Cos he’s only a shell of the man.
In his top left pocket he carries the reminders
of all the places he’s been to and why.
A list of of the names and the dates in his life,
A cameo brooch to remember you by.
He looks in the bed of your eyes
and he tells the most beautiful lies.

But he’s only a shell of the man that I am,
Only a shell of the man.
