Dirty Dishes
« on: February 08, 2013, 03:44:34 AM »
As I drove home from work tonight, snowflakes dancing in the headlights, the trees heavy with white stuff, my iPod showed its sense of humour and played me "Too Hot to Move". That 'dirty dishes' bit always sticks in my head somehow. Last night, we'd watched Seven Psychopaths, and as I'm sitting here, catching up on emails and Facebook, I noticed a song called "Dirty Dishes" on the soundtrack. So, for all of us lovers of melancholy lovesongs, here it is (the band is Deer Tick):

And I cried all night
You created a stream and it flows forever
It's made of dreams that didn't come true
And I'm sorry, there's nothing more that I can do
When we get together
Take apart my fantasy
And when we are done
We'll work on you
It's sweet, lie motionless just staring at the ceiling
With your back turned up against the wall
And now I clearly see
Straight to the back of my skull
And I've been shivering all night long
And my skin is clear and you can see what I'm thinking
I'm thinking hard about all the things I've been dreaming
I've been dreaming about you and only you
Turn the land into waste
And bury it in parking lots
And I'm constantly turned off
By the look of the clock
And it's turning in hours
And I got nothing to look forward to
'Cause I killed all the flowers
And that cold wind will blow
Tear the skin off your nose and you've got nothing to be grateful for
It's your list of wishes
It's some dirty dishes and you wanted more
And you got left, and it hurt
Oh but it could be worse
Yeah, things could be so much worse
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

"There's dirty dishes - Piling up in the sink" good one, dirt sticks, the sticking of poetry is achieved by dirt in the form of a song... blahblahblah ramble ramble ramble  :) (i have recently discovered Jack Spicer.... though only just a little quantity of that spicer) :)
and a song is the sort of art form with the most easily permeating qualities, able to mingle and mutate with daily life and to weave itself in our minds and give a soul to them objects as ipodders etc etc

In 2004 at the Leuven exhibition "A temporary monument for David McComb" contributor Maria Barnas (artist and poet) had piled up some dishes, they were very shiny white though... ??? :)
Throw yourself into The Triffids darling, you haven't got a chance!

Oh, please, blabla and ramble on! I happen to agree with your statement about songs and art and all that jazz.  8)

Still can't believe I missed that exhibition, since I actually WAS in Europe at the time! Such is life, that old, humourless b*tch.

Perhaps "Dishwashing liquid" by the Widdershins is the antidote?
