Hi Graham,

I think the first time I heard about The Triffids is when I read an interview with Nick Cave and it mentioned that "former Triffid" Martyn Casey had joined The Bad seeds. I was a big Nick Cave fan at the time so was interested in what The Triffids would sound like.

A few weeks later (this would be late '93) I was in london and bought "Born Sandy Devotional" and "Love in Bright Landscapes" on import in Tower Records and was hooked as soon as I heard "The Seabirds".

Within weeks I had found quite a lot of Triffids vinyl in local second hand record shops and listened to nothing else for months   Smiley

Hmm

I've been hanging around here for years but never actually introduced myself...

Hi.

Triffids fan since around 2003.

An Uncle had Born Sandy Devotional and Calenture on CD; I once borrowed BSD off him around 1999, but didn't get it at the time - besides Wide Open Road. This was when I was about 18.

In 2003, I happened to pick up Australian Melodrama to get a feel for The Triffids overall. For some reason, with a couple of years of life, it made sense this time. Within two weeks I had picked up In The Pines, Black Swan, BSD, Calenture, Love in Bright Landscapes, Treeless Plain and Stockholm. The lot.

... and have been hanging around ever since ...

I also run True Believers - www.humanfrailty.com.au - Hunters and Collectors site. Married with a delightful daughter. Brisbane area, Queensland, Australia.

Cheers

Hi there you two. Nicely done. I think this was my first forum to post on as well - a bizarre experience it is too. I sympathise.

What's even weirder is when you meet in person people that you've met here in cyberspaceland. Not in a nasty way as they've all been lovely. But it just doesn't seem natural.

Is that why you've conveniently found yourself unable to make the London ASITSOAS show, Eke? Wink

Can't blame you, mate, can't blame you.... I'm slightly edgy too Smiley

And the blimmin' Blackeyed Susans show

This was supposed be a *grrr* emoticon but it looks more like *constipated*. Never mind eh.

Thought it might be an idea to dust off my manners and introduce myself. I've lurked around here for a very long time, labouring under the mistaken belief that I'd registered and would be able to post when I had something to say. Oops. Anyway, hello. I'm Anthea, I live in Oslo. It's good to be on the board.

Welcome a-board, Anth-ea! Feel free to share any other relevant information about yourself here.

Thanks for shifting this to the right place. Directions, not my strong point.

Umm, right then. I first heard of the Triffids around about the time Lawson Square Infirmary was released. First saw the band live in   Brisbane in 1984. Caught a few gigs in Sydney 85-88 or so, and Brisbane shows at around the same time. When I headed overseas in 92, my port had a whack of vinyl packed in it. Born Sandy Devotional was one of those records. It's travelled with me ever since.

These days I'm in Oslo. Norway's not so bad, but it's a long way from Queensland.

Hello everyone, I'm Hana and I'm 20 and I live in Dorset, England.  I got to hear of the Triffids through my Dad, whenever we ever went somewhere for the day we always used to listen to the Triffids on the journey home, normally when it was dark! Jerdacuttup man always appealed to me when I was younger, but since I got older and began to appreciate the lyrics more, Beautiful Waste and Bury Me Deep in Love became my firm two favourites!  I know it is a sin to have a compilation as your favourite album, but Australian Melodrama has to be my favourite.  It just reminds me of when I was younger and I love how Red Pony sets the mood.

Hi Hana. That's lovely. I hope my kids grow up to tell such a great story because all they do these days is take the mickey when I put the Triffids on in the car. You've encouraged me to keep trying Smiley

Oh, and hi to you too Anthea.

Geoffm, you might be right.

All that not swearing at home, at least before the watershed, has forced me to question if swearing is still appropriate in a man my age.

I practically have my Dad to thank for my entire music taste, all bar Joni Mitchell who he always says he had nothing to do with! These days its the only thing we about agree on!
