Born Sandy Devotional
« on: April 18, 2006, 06:51:10 PM »
Fave Triffids' songs & fave Triffids' albums

There's not really a section here where you can discuss the Triffids albums in their 'total identity form’. Most Triffids albums are masterly craftworked constellations. Objects with existential qualities of the ‘one heart made like clockwork’ kind.

So maybe expanding the category 'Fave Triffids' songs' with '& Fave Triffids' albums' is not such a bad idea? The poll box does of course have some good items about the albums, but most times I'm having too much trouble with the skipping of choices and voting...

As the day is near for the resurrection of that mythical Sandy one, born devotional and under an all godless sun, I very gladly like to make an entry with that illustrious name.

There has already been official word on the delivery of nine extra tracks here (blink and you might have missed it though). Whether delivery to record company equals release to public remains to be seen, but that tracklisting seems convincing. I think I've read 12 June as the prospective release date in some of the press releases on the internet too (StuBru or the other stuff posted by Lonesome or Johan), but I could be imagining that or misinterpreting.

Good move on starting this topic, KrieB. I notice a track by the name of Born Sandy Devotional is listed.  When I read this topic this morning and your godless star references it got me pondering "Which came first the chicken or the egg?"

And then today I found this on the net
http://www.angryape.com/news/2006/04/the-triffids-born-sandy-devotional

which also mentions June the 12th as release date, but this time with 9 bonus tracks (on a separate disc)

Bonus Songs Tracklisting:

01. The 107
02. When A Man Turns Bad
03. Of The Plaza
04. White Shawl
05. Convent Walls (b side of You Don't Miss Your Water)
06. Time Of Weakness (b side of Wide Open Road)
07. Born Sandy Devotional
08. Wish To See No More
09. Tender Is The Night (the long fidelity)

Sounds truly mouth-watering, "best of & rarities" SET (how many cds comprises a set?), and , oh yes, Bleddyn's book - hope he does manage to get it out during the reissues. If the link above is even remotely correct, it's a going to be a good year! Half of the songs on the bonus cd I haven't even heard. Great!   :)
Where can I send my money???

Just read somewhere (uh.. lost the link - and who knows how trustworthy it might be) that amongst the bonustracks are some spoken word pieces... With or without some accompanying sound I wonder?
But hey... spoken word... DMcC goes Melody Nelson or what? 8)

We've crammed as much as you possibly can on a single CD. One more note and it would have been Mr Creosote.
That track listing is correct. There's also a mpeg of a live version of Wide Open Road.
When I finally get the updated thetriffids.com finished in the next 24 hours there will be a more official announcement of all this.
Unless something unavoidable gets in the way, June 12 is release date.

You don't build a wide open road without creosote.

I've now read that bulletin reproduced on the Yahoo group forum and it is too elegantly written to be anything but the official word. It seems that Mick Houghton has become involved again as press officer (at least on this initial leg of the journey) and done an excellent group history to accompany the re-release information that's worth a read even if you know most of it already. It's quite exciting just to have a judiciously penned perspective from a specialist in the trade.

The thought had occurred to me of doing this (it would be easy enough), but it seems better to me that Graham or John put official material on here rather than me treading on toes whilst getting in the road. By the sound of it, there are big changes afoot in terms of thetriffids.com website (about which I know nothing more than hinted on here, but did spy the banner heading being toyed with a bit t'other day) and maybe this sort of thing will come as part of that package. Alternatively, signing up to the Yahoo forum doesn't take very long.

quite right.
I thought the Go-betweens re-issues were a bit silly with only about 30 minutes of music on a 2nd disc.
as vp, I haven't heard some of the extra tracks. Almost can't wait. I suppose/hope the new cd will be available in Hasselt.
walls so thin I can almost hear them breathing

Mick Houghton the bands original publicist has written the biography update.
In the UK we are using a different publicist Ken Lower at a company called Hermana. we have radio pluggers, tv pluggers and do online marketing - there's a team of people...
That yahoo site and the angry ape site are carrying the correct press release from Ken and ergo the label.
i think the spoken word thing is a red herring by the way - they've got the wrong end of the stick there...

next week promo copies of both WOR and BSD come into the Domino warehouse and ergo on out into the real world.
artwork, crisp and lovely not like them horrible warners reissues that WIND ME UP with their lack of care and attention to the simple niceties.
can someone scan the vinyl inner bag of BSD ( both sides )please and post it on here - I need to have a look at something...

best to all
i told Ken to state David in the future btw - i forgot who put me straight there. let me know if it repeats. it'll take a short while to disappear but bear with me...

The Angry Ape probably got some dates wrong:

"Born Sandy Devotional will be available once again on June 12th 2006 - 21 years after it was originally released"

As far as the discography mentions
http://www.thetriffids.com/cgi-bin/journal.cgi?folder=dmcdiscog&next=24
BSD was recorded August 1985 and released June 1986
At the time, in interviews, DMcC told how it had taken an really hard long time to convince a record company to release BSD

As for a scan of the innerbag, I don't have my vinyl copy at hand at the moment.
But as mentioned in an earlier topic: a clearer view on the DMcC-Tintin picture would solve some personal mind rambling.

BTW my vinyl copy was made in the Benelux and had the company name Megadisc on it.... Now there's a story or a lot of questions that I'd love to ramble on a bit (later)

Please ramble some more, KrieB. You have a certain way with a ramble ("masterly craftworked constellations" is a gem of a phrase to encapsulate the non-conceptual wholeness of The triffids albums). I've said that before too. I'm your number one fan. Don't let that worry you too much. I don't own a sledgehammer ;D.

Is there going to be a reissue of WOR then John? Or is this a promo-only version to try and grab people who aren't bothered about albums?
