It's a remarkable thing, but that top photo of Marty could easily have been taken at the Nick Cave gig the other night. Similar natty dress code, pose and hairstyle (perhaps a bit longer now and less slicked back quiffy). I believe it would have been the exact same bass guitar too. Just goes to show that time is a relative concept.

He sent me some scans. This flyer was titled '1982 Perth gig flyer'. As he had been in Perth then I had no reason to doubt him.
thanks pherron.

A list of the shows performed by the Triffids.
Please let us know if you can add to it, especially on the early years, thanks very much.

Nice one Mark.
Cato, if you're checking in, do you happen to have details of that Sydney 85 show from which your exquisite photos come? Or any others?

My 1st and only Triffids gig was Keele University Lindsay Hall
refectory,1st or 2nd week of December 84.This was during my early drinking days so i was a bit gone by the end of the night and jumped on stage to get the setlist and David's written down 2 verses of What Goes On.Also met Robert before hand buying cigarettes at the bar. This was during the Miners Strike,so i think there were a few families from the local Silverdale Colliery given a free Christmas Party. Some bugger nicked my black puffa jacket and someone tried to set fire to the curtains,so it was a memorable night.Setlist:
I'm a Lonesome Hobo
Hell of a Summer
My Baby thinks she's a train
What Goes on
Lonely stretch
Beautiful Waste
Red Pony
Ballad of Jack Frost
Raining Pleasure
Monkey on my Back
Field of Glass
You Don't miss your Water
Branded
Bright Lights Big City
No Fun
I now have 25 Rolf Harris lps!
Cheers,Dave

There's a thread called Guilty Pleasures for that sort of thing rolffan, though with a name like yours I sense you might not be feeling too guilty…
Think I've still got my copy of his Stairway To Heaven cover somewhere. That, at least, was a moment of pure genius.
Ooh and it makes me wonder
How does it affect you blokes?
Ooh and it makes us wonder
That's interesting that, yeah.
Certainly the best version of Stairway that I've ever heard.

Hi rolffan and welcome.
I think everyone probably has a Rolf moment or two in their past but maybe not enought to warrant 25 LPs. I had no idea he'd been able to release that many or have you just got 25 copies of the same one?

I saw The Triffids play at The Red Parrot Nightclub (Perth) on Thusday Feb 9 1984 . . . I still have the tape. Also,I'm pretty certain I saw the launch of' Bad Timing' at The Shaftesbury Hotel in March 1983 (Chad's Tree were the opening act as I recall). And the WAIT Cultural Hall gig was in 1984 - I still have the ticket and the flyer.

Thanks for the welcome. Yep . . . from Perth. I first saw The Triffids in early 1982 . . . and then saw almost every gig they played in Perth. Also,I was lucky enough to catch many performances by Chad's Tree,The Scientists,Gary Meadows Syndrome,Bottomless Schooners of Old,Blackeyed Susans,Wild Honey etc. I'm going to go through my old flyers, posters etc for further info.
Still trying to figure out my favourite gig etc.

A couple of interesting songs on that setlist that I imagine were rarely performed. What was The Triffids version of a Stooges song like?

Hope it's ok to just jump in here . . .
Every time I heard/saw The Triffids perform 'No Fun' Jill sang it. Did Dave sing it at this show? Maybe Jill singing it was a Perth thing . . . having a laugh at those 'hometown' folk who still thought The triffids were wimps.
