Gazza, if you're from Wallsend, I take it your moniker is a nod in the direction of that place's favourite son?

Once went from Burra to Quorn, via Jamestown, so I've probably been to Appila, great country, plenty of wide open roads. :)

Appila, got out all my maps of SA the other day and finally found your hometown, but only when I got to the largest scale: no wonder Iíd never heard of it! Looks tiny, but itís a gorgeous part of the country.

Once spent a few very happy days sleeping on top of a delivery truck in and around the Flinders, and Iím definitely going back up there again sometime. (Only for a holiday, mind!)

One of the jobs on the delivery run was dropping off beer for the St Patrickís Day celebrations at the pub in Lyndhurst, and I still havenít got over how much they were planning to put away that weekend, nor how far people were going to come fromÖ

I was at Lynhurst for the solar eclipse, the pub sold a few beers that day!

Great little pub, in a dusty sort of way. Is Talc Alf still around town?

Yeah, Ive been through Lyndhurst twice since the eclipse, so I managed to get into the pub (couldn't get near it during the eclipse). They call it the Elsewhere Hotel, as they figure that is where everybody is.  I did get a great 'solar eclipse- been there - seen that' stubby holder, though.

Talc Alf is still there, just out of town selling his 'art'.

Seems that nowadays he even has his own web page, but to avoid offending anyone's aesthetic sensibilities I'm not going to say where it is.

Just believe me: you don't want to go there.

Well, it probably looks tiny because it absolutely is!  Still holds a special place in my heart, but when I go back today it really is a different place - it doesn't hold the same magic for me anymore sadly.  And the less said about neighboring Jamestown the better.....
