Poll
Question: Which of the following would you prefer to see go down on the permanent record?
I knelt, I aimed, I missed, I ran, across the fields where our love began
Sun still burns, Rain still falls, Sin still burns little fiery holes, I hold on tight to nothing at all
Are you drinking to get maudlin or drinking to get numb?
We watched him fade before our very eyes and years before his time
But my vision is strong, and my vision is true
Sleep no more, sleep is dead
Hold yourself up to the light
It's a wide open road
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
It's a long way down as the crow flies
So high you can't get over it, so low you can't get under it
Now the only thing bright is my name in lights, and the night has only just begun
There's a dot on a map, it's just a tiny dot, That's where my sweetie lives, you know that means a lot
I hold you not, but I see you still

Looks great. Council could possibly have an objection to inclusion of website on the grounds of advertising, but I really have no idea how these things work.

There was an earlier post with a photo of a plaque celebrating Helen Allingham that included the message "Sponsored by Bellway Homes Ltd", so I don't think it can be that much of an issue.

For some reason the same jpeg, when viewed directly on my Mac, is much sharper and cleaner than the one on the website, despite it being a fairly large file…

Originally wanted to include the first four lines of "Lonely Stretch" – for me, that one song really sums up the whole album – but I couldn't fit them in at a size that would be reasonably legible without making the whole thing very cramped.

theres been a whole debate about the lyric to accompany this thing way back on this thread.Sadly, western liberal democracy was the winner.
I thought we had agreed to the word "seminal" rather than "classic" or other such terms? But I could be wrong and I`m happy to go with the flow(my imput to this thread could thus far be described kindly as very modest)

That was my fault! I questioned whether "seminal" was cliché-speak for "old". Urpal suggested "acclaimed" but the discussion didn't come to anything.

Anyway - great job Gazza. It'll give me something to email to the manufacturers when I speak to them this weekend if they want to see what we're talking about.

I hope it doesn't seem bad-mannered after all your work but I'm happier with a simpler colour scheme and the white on blue seemed less busy (not to mention cheaper if we're going to pay £50 for each extra colour).

That's great, Gazza64. "Classic" seems as good a word as any. Roll over Beethoven.

I agree with eke on the minimalist colour scheme though. Bright lights, big city burned my baby's eyes.

Eke, please can you ask the plaque maker to confirm details of the fixing method (providing any diagrammatic drawing showing this that might be available), plaque dimension options (if they can do anything but standard size) in precise metric and imperial and cost differential of the smaller and larger options.

Couldn't work out how to change the last image I posted, so I've had to delete it.

To paraphrase Oscar Wilde: my apologies for sending such a complicated design; I didn't have time for a simple one. The problem I had earlier was that I stuck as closely as I could to the colour that everyone seemed happiest with, but that didn't work with white type and I ended up changing it to dark blue, and then complicated things further by starting to play around with gold and red. And then I ran out of time.

Simplicity always wins.

I want to play around with the design some more, but can't just yet: this will have to do until the weekend. Bloody tax returns!

Eke, whatever you do, please please please don't show the original jpg to the suppliers. I'll die of shame if you do! Before anything is finalised, I'd like to see photos of similar plaques made by the same process if that's at all possible.

Personally I think that the gold works really well now, and if we can run to the extra colour it would be worth it.

Edit: image deleted.

If I may say so Gazza64 that is one sexy looking sign. Cool We might need to change the background colour to something more green-blue in tone if English Heritage take exception to the confusion it might cause with an official birthplace blue plaque, but I'm happy to run with a "wedgwood" blue.

Yup. It's terrific! Are we waving goodbye to any other logo now Graham? I think the normal Triffids logo in gold looks exceptionally good and makes anything else redundant.

I think I need the info from eke listed previously (the fixing method being the most important aspect from a listed building perspective) before submitting the planning application, but I'll write to the building owner giving the three weeks prior notice which must be given to them now and see how they rrespond to the proposal. I'll let you know how this impacts on things.

As far as muscle is concerned, I doubt that will assist unless you fight with kid gloves Grin
