We've had this poll on the main page before it moved to www.thetriffids.com.
We were nearing 1000 votes, but it will be interesting what the core members of this site (some 25 according to the number of votes most polls have received) have to say.

i voted for BSD. It's the album where the whole The Triffids story started for me.
I still remember the first time I heard it and how impressed I was.

Don't think there ever will be a record that can beat it.

I agree mich, but I think I may still have voted for at least one other album when this poll was on the old site front page - I treated it as one of those ballots where you can vote for more than one candidate. And sometimes the "movement of the moon" shifted my position.

For me it has to be BSD. My first record by the triffids. But then again maybe calenture is just as good....

I have only heard two albums (Calenture, Born Sandy Devotional) so I'll leave this poll to experts. I love both of them, and although I preferred Calenture at first, I found BSD to be an unbelievable grower - I think the songwriting is equally great on both records, so maybe it's the lyrics and surely it's production that made me change my mind. Now I'd go for BSD.
I have to confess I'm a little bit scared of listening to the rest of the Triffids' albums. If they're as good as the previous two, the band will have a secure position within my favourite bands ever.

Tough call. BSD in the end although it could easily have gone to several others.

It's still Calenture, most of the time anyway...

I agree, it was the first Triffids record I heard in 1988 and 17 years on it is still my fave. This would be my top 7:

1) Calenture
2) Born Sandy
3) Pines
4) Raining Pleasure
5) Black Swan
6) Treeless Plain
7) Lawson Square Infirmary

I've gone for the Black Swan, because I still feel it's The Triffids most perfectly realised, rounded and under-rated record. And it's the one I reach for before the others in practice and has been for some time.

Having said that, these polls have certainly got me to listen to and appreciate again just how great the others were as well.

I agree with you all that its a hard choice.  I love them all but I will go for Calenture quickly followed by BSD.   Calenture is a bit too polished but it has a greater number of great songs.  In a fantasy world I would love it even more if they left a few of the rough edges in.

I was always surprised BSD got so much critical acclaim and Calenture so little. I think both albums are at least equal in quality. With the possible exception of Vagabond Holes, Calenture has 10 very great songs. Good to see that the fans know, at least.

To get a just result we would probably have to subtract the votes in the least-best album poll from the votes here. The full result, after 19 votes would be:
1) BSD 7
2) Calenture 5
3) Raining Pleasure -2
4) In the Pines -3
    The Black Swan -3
6) Treeless plain -6

I'm sorry but I just can't vote in this, for the following reasons.

My three favourites are BSD, Calenture and Black Swan (not in any order). Like Urpal (i think) I prefer different albums at different times, depending upoin my mood, the season etc. I just can't vote for one as being distinctly better than the others.
