New live audio.
« on: June 12, 2013, 12:10:53 AM »
The first part of a live show from 1982 or perhaps 1983 from Perth, Shaftesbury Hotel I think, is up on main site. Follow the news link or find it in audio section. The rest of the show will be available soon.

yeah, thanks. Listening now. Really great. It's got a lively, cheerful, youthful feel. As rich says, remarkable sound quality too, considering cassette was generally such a crap recording medium.

Happy days obviously, and already on the cusp of greatness.

Interesting to hear the pre-Jill triffids as a four piece guitar & drum act too. Would it be fair to say the influence of Television is more apparent here than elsewhere (possibly on account of the keyboardlessness)? Some of the guitar/drum dynamics certainly bring Marquee Moon to my mind without being the least derivative or losing the boyish charm.

your description is quite accurate, urpal. It's indeed more a band of boys than of more grown up men. It's a bit like television with a jonathan richman feel.

On the subject of Television, I noticed that the band have coincidentally announced a UK date at London Roundhouse with tickets going on sale today.

Further research indicates that they are playing ATP events in the UK and Australia this year.

I'd like to see 'em again but not sure I will be at any of these dates.

On a similar subject, it was recently announced that Kim Deal had left the Pixies and now this:

 http://pixiesmusic.com/new/

I think she had always made her involvement conditional on the band not releasing new material that might damage the legacy of the band, so the timing of the two events might explain her departure.

I haven't listened to the new song yet, but hope its more memorable than ker pow or whatever that last reformation song was called.

Meanwhile the reformed Gang of Four is still trading despite having been reduced to a gang of one with bonus new kids on the block making up for lost weight.

I won't even attempt to summarise the current whereabouts of the old New Order....

Makes you wonder....
