Thanks Chris. A set of atmospheric/nostalgic pics. That fella in the background in the last pic really has his dance moves down Smiley

Who is the guy in shorts in the pic with Kim Salmon? It looks like it could be Rob but then he's wearing jeans later.

I notice there seems to be a few different guitars around. Dave's playing a red Rickenbacker bass in one pic, but Will has a white Fender bass in another. Was there more than one show? Julian has a taste for natural wooden guitar finishes which glee has followed Smiley

Thanks Chris - truly brilliant photos - though I think the question has to be asked - who let Kim Salmon into a Ladies College?  Grin

Wow, great shots. I wonder if Simon still has the video he seemed to be shooting.

The Red Rickenbacker 4001 stereo belongs to Byron Sinclair.
Simon Cromack's nick name was not 'Tack' but 'Tact' because
of his singular lack of tact. The individual who looks like
Kim Salmon is someone else. Kim would dye his hair weekly
around this time but NOBODY that cool would have been seen
dead at a Triffids gig back then. Great pictures!

Another detail for trainspotters, Phil's paramour was named
Sally Ann and David would often sing Hey Sally Ann when
playing Hey Mary-Ann.

The "Le Tack" was supposed to be "Le Tact" but I pressed the wrong key. It may not be Kim Salmon but it looks alot like him. The leather jacket looks just like the one he wore alot. If it was him, I would be surprised to see him there. He wasn't cool enough to attend a Triffids gig! The Triifids  always attracted cool people. I believe that Dave Faulkner (nee Flick) wanted to join the band when the Victims broke up. He said The Triffids were the most exciting band in Perth. David was flattered but didn't think it would work. He ended up joining the Manikins for a while.

Graham, I don't think that it is Simon with the video. The guy who has the video is in a suit. I could load a larger image if any one wants to have a go at identifying him. Perhaps Max may be able to identify him since he was there. Simon had an SLR but it would still be interesting to see if he has still got the photos. Does he visit this site or does anyone have contact with him?

Phil Kakulas looks very Jonathan Richman in those pics. More recent pics suggest the similarity hasn't lasted Smiley

It does look like Simon, mainly because he looks like he's
wearing shorts the same colour as Simon used to wear.
Either way as Chris has pointed out he have an SLR* so
is liable to have a lot of great pictures of the band.
Phil K. was closer to a young Elvis rather than Jonathon

The guy with the video camera is seen (only just!) on PLC School Dance picture No5 sneaking some vision from between the curtains at the back. I will send you a copy Max. Maybe you can identify him.

PLC 3 - David, ? Justin, ?? girl , Alsy, Rob and Margaret

* PLC School Dance 3 copy.JPG (92.6 KB, 245x343 - viewed 41 times.)

The unknown girl is pip hagon. I am pretty sure she went to hollywood before going to plc, knew alsy there- thus the connection for the band to play and her being allowed the venerable go-go girl position. So is that Michelle Gordon you speak of chris?

hmm i was the designer for the dance. I did not do the backdrop, but we had a camoflage net which got lower and lower during the night, this was full of cuttings from someones garden. We also had a little "triffid" centrepiece for each table consisting of plastic cup, pipe cleaner, and polystyrene "eye".

God it seemed like such a big deal to us. I also remember it being a pretty hot day.

anyway

Quick round of applause for jenchrysalis. Easily one of the most considered pieces of forum spam I've come across – it attempts to engage with the thread, and the spam itself didn't even come in until the edit! Minimum of three visits just to add a link to a computer consultancy website.

Still an absolute pain in the arse though. Moderator!

The official photographer was Kathryn Roberts. She had finished year 12 the previous year and was well regarded at school for her camera skills. I went along with her to help... but mostly to see the band!
