Can't say I begin to understand how Amazon would be selling cheaper than Domino but I'm sure someone who does will fill us in soonish.

I can't speak for Domino and Amazon but glee here in Australia if you buy our DVD directly from Madman it is the recommended retail price but if you purchase it from JB HiFi, either in-store or online it is $5 cheaper than what the distributor is selling it for.
JB HiFi's philosophy is to cut their profit on wholesale but "hopefully" increase it in volume - not that the local Chatswood store seems to stock it anyway, making any discounted price useless!
I did see an Australian based online store advertise it for $10 more than recommended retail price, now if someone can explain how that works I'd be fascinated.

I believe it will be available at Barbican.

Good news. I shall hold fire until the 9th when I can pay in cold hard cash. Theirs nothing like the feeling of travelling home with some newly purchased music in my saddlebags. And i'll presumably have some comprehensive liner notes to read on the   journey aswell?

Normally I'm a "get it as cheap as possible" kind of guy, but I do hope that by buying this set direct from the record company I'm supporting independent music, and the band themselves.

It's a rare record company these days that would dream of putting out such a thing. There's certainly no huge money to be directly made by putting out 1000 copies of a 10 CD set of rarities very reasonably priced but much goodwill generated. It is a pretty strong statement from Domino I think. If I was buying a copy I'd get it from them on principle.

I wanted to order from Domino direct precisely for that reason, glee, but... they only take V/MC and I only have AE, so I had to look elsewhere. I hope that indirectly, at least, is some sort of a 'thanks' to Domino!

A wee head's up.  I had pre-ordered this from HMV at £47.99, but they've now cancelled it saying 'supplier says this item no longer being manufactured'.
I phoned to complain as the item is still up for sale but at £68 or so.  Got some story about a new supplier but they couldn't explain the 'no longer being manufactured' part of the email and I can't shake the belief that this was simply a ruse so they don't have to fulfil orders at the lower price.

So if you ordered cheap from HMV, you're out of luck...

How are sales doing at Domino?  bdroop said he would keep us up to date in case we needed to get an order in due to the limited numbers.

Should we be ordering in the near future to be sure of getting one?

I don't have the answer to your question, Jon, but noticed this pre-release press review of the single CD Best Of at contactmusic.com today:

Nice review there... not sure I agree with all of it but still very positive.

Where did that "voice of an outback preacher" quote come from? I infer from the phrasing that the author sees it as a well known one but I don't think I've ever heard it before.

I thought it was a good review too. Unfortunately perhaps in terms of maintaining the interest of a newcomer the opening two paras are a bit leaden and should have been removed or re-located to later in the piece. I suspect many readers might give up reading before getting to "the meat" of the review.

I also thought the suggestion that Stolen Property was dated is a bit like saying the same about, say, Beethoven's Ninth Smiley Nevertheless I respect the right of the reviewer to say what he or she feels, and perhaps to a younger person that might be a legitimate first impression.

This 'do we or don't we' on the tracklistings is an interesting question... I couldn't help but look if they were available, but do I want them available? Still undecided.

So... 10 days until release date... have copies started to appear at the record company? =)

The box set still sits high on the Domino 'Mart Chart' - at #3 now, having been at #4 last time I looked and having been up to #1 initially.
