"Light on the water, We could sail on forever"

« on: January 25, 2010, 10:59:08 PM »

The pre-order info about the forthcoming Domino releases has just descended upon me from a great height and can be gleaned (no, not you glee) from hereabouts:

2. STANDARD

Nice cover picture there! Is that one of Mark's or not? It reminds me that I took a mobile phone pic of a Triffids-logo shaped tree on the descent from Lose Hill in Castleton, Derbyshire one time. Or was it Win Hill nearby? Either way the pic's lost somewhere now Smiley Anyway, it was more of a "bender" than that one (if you'll pardon the expression) and the pic a rather less exceptional shot.

Does the box set include the best of cd, or do you have to buy them separately?

Also, is the You Don't Miss Your Water single included in the box set?

no tracklist yet - Graham is working on it still we know most of the tracklistings across 6 or 7 of the cds.
I'm determined to not say any more so he can keep his options open for the rest
The 18 tracks of the best of will be in the box set.
so no one needs to buy the single disc - if you're more drawn towards the deluxe edition
- the normal best of is for the unitiated and to act as a starting off point for anyone wanting explore the music of the Triffids, it's cover is lovely of course and is the basis of photograph taken by Mark T.

It's a very lovely cover. Clearly not showing a scene in the Peak District or anywhere else this side of Australia - it references Marty's emblamatic design and has its feet firmly fixed with Australian roots.

If it's not in the box set, you might be tempted to get the CD just to have Mark's pic and a "best of" CD for ease of reference. A fiver on pre-order doesn't add megabucks to the grand total after you've bitten off the cost of the box set.

I haven't pre-ordered the best of myself (yet) though Smiley The box is quite a big chew to start with.

I see it comes with a Valentine's Day present too, which is very romantic of you bdroop or whoever came up with that notion. Does Rudolph (not you, rednosed reindeer Grin) not play for the boxsetters?

Whilst on the subject of trees, I found myself at one of Manchester's art galleries at the weekend - The Whitworth - and they have an exhibition on at the moment of pictorial art built around the theme of trees - including a couple of Willam Blake's book illustrations. I prefer the new CD cover to everything I saw in there!

Woo... love the art on the best of, too Smiley

Quick question - Australian release - will it happen? Approximate time frame?

I'm happy to order it now from the UK, though at about A$135 delivered, better check first =)

Cheers

The standard best of will be released in Australia but I don't think the deluxe will be.

As I opened the Triffids webpage and saw the news that Graham had posted I felt a wave of excitement wash over me.
I immediately went to the Domino page and looked at the planned releases but was especially interested in the box set.
Even though I have all the tapes and singles I was still looking forward to hearing the official digital versions.

I then went to the forum to view the postings about the box set etc.

I scrolled through the various postings until I came across this one.......

"The standard best of will be released in Australia but I don't think the deluxe will be" - GLee

I can't believe that the deluxe version will not be released in Australia

All I can ask is " WHY NOT"?

I mean I can buy it from Domino directly but it should be available here in Australia also.

This is a very limited edition box set, a niche item if ever there was and Liberation have currently passed on doing a local release for it. It's possible some copies may be imported. On a brighter note the dollar is quite strong against the pound.

Indeed. It looks like just under A$135 including postage from my quick calculations on the current exchange rate. Not cheap, but OK for ~8 discs.

I think it's difficult to not make a loss on such a niche product.

Even more mainstream ones don't necessarily go to plan - Liberation Records is currently selling the 16 disc Hunters and Collectors box set for A$49.95 before postage (see http://www.liberation.com.au/artists/release/Horn_of_Plenty_%28Box_Set%29 click 'buy now' on the right hand side) - given the quality packaging and contents, I suspect this might be at a loss.

Unfortunately I already purchased the Hunters box set. JB Hifi had it online for about $99. This seemed like a good deal given rrp was $169. However now I wished I had waited longer to buy!!
