Roskilde 1987
« on: February 08, 2009, 07:51:52 AM »
Hello everyone! I am a new member on this forum, a middle-aged male from Finland. I apologize my English; I know it's far from perfect, but I'm trying to do my best...

The only Triffids gig I heard took place in Roskilde Festival, Denmark, July 1987. There were then Pretenders and there was Iggy Pop, but the main act for me was the Triffids on a blue stage. I had been listening to Born Sandy Devotional since August 1986 and was very impressed of that record, but I was not familiar with any other Triffids' recordings then.

It is impossible for me to explain what happened inside me that night. I couldn't do it even in my own language. So, I just say that when the gig was over my mind was somewhere in spheres. I walked towards to main stage where Echo and the Bunnymen were playing their set, but I was not able to concentrate on them, because I had just experienced something that have touched deep in my soul. I'll always be grateful that I had a chance to be there that night.

Thanks Urpal! It's good to be in a place where the value of the Triffids is understood.

Wow...I've never seen that footage. It's great.
It makes me miss Dave very much to see him speaking like that and performing so intensely. Thanks Willer.
What's the footage come from?

Part 3 is up .... its from Danish National Radio they are always broadcasting from Roskilde, this was sent a couple of weeks after the festival - Dave is interviewed by Jan Laursen at great journalist that spent most of his career in the radio department playing a lot of obscure rockmusic late at night.

I will make a better version of the clip and make it avaialble via megaupload, so you can download it.

Great Stuff -
I am amazed to hear that such a vital component of the band's sound came about so serendipitously ".........The rest of us don't like country music all that much we just like Graham Lee"

Beautiful!

Thanks Willer. It certainly takes you back......even if you weren't there :)

Looks like a great show and the film seems to capture an immediacy that's often lacking in old videos of the band.

The interview leaves a pleasant impression too.

I'm struck by how much in the concert footage Dave looks then like his brother John does now. For some reason he looks much younger in the interview. It must be as a consequence of the contrasting effects of daylight and darkness part filled by coloured lights.

Welcome, Ola, & I sympathize with you. I'm from Texas & we have our problems with English too, believe me.

Willer, that footage is a real treat, perhaps especially for those of us who never saw the Triffids. Many thanks for finding & posting it.
I could ask you why you married him; I could ask you any one of a dozen things...
