On the 1982 version of Lanallu that suggests Dave's Mum is
responsable for setting the tape rolling, in fact Dave is merely
thanking his Mum for something unrelated, like;
"Dave, I've left the dog's meat defrosting in the kitchen."
His reply of "Thanks, Mum" refers to that. The voice on the tape who has pressed 'pause' sounds like Denise Boundy, who
wrote the line "I'm just a shit" in Marrying Kind. It might also
be Margaret Gillard. I remember this song very well from it's
time and recall being astonished by the intro of 'Angel of Harlem' by U2 which seems to have the same introduction.
Anyone else recognize this?
Also while U2 plainly can write good songs they seem to my ear to be incapable of devising even the most rudimentary
arrangement. Also 'The Edge' is possibly the poorest guitar
player in a major band.. Any one else agree that THE EDGE
should do us a favour and jump.

Fascinating choice of name, Will. Poor old Mary must have had quite a persecution complex.

That's rather forward of you Gazza. I expect it's the xray vision
that comes with being a hero member! Yes, she did develop
something of a complex, not unsurprisingly. There is a fairly
good biography of her by that rather fatuous celebrity chef
( a Tautology if ever there was one) Anthony Bourdaine (spelling?)

U2 continue to polarise opinion - not least on this forum I suspect. I'm almost 100% with you but I do harbour a soft spot for one particular song that I've mentioned before somewhere.

It's always a good idea to keep your eyes on the hole, Will. And I certainly wasn't the only one to notice.

I agree that they can write some good songs, maybe great
ones, but I thought the Chimes version of 'Still havent Found"
was much better. And I think The Edge seems to have the soul
of a synth player, no hanging crime in it's self, but undesirable
in a guitar player.
