In The Pines has been remixed by Bruce Callaway, the original mixer and "producer after the event". This is taking "production after the event" to ridiculous lengths. We're also indebted to Bruce for looking after the 8 track masters for the past 20 years. The remix was mastered by Simon Polinski at the wonderfully named Laundry Goat studio in Melbourne.
The track list is as follows.
Suntrapper
In The Pines
Kathy Knows
25 To 5
Only One Life
Do You Want Me Near You?
A Trick Of The Light
Once A Day
She's Sure The Girl I Love
Jerdacuttup Man
Just Might Fade Away
Better Off This Way
Keep Your Eyes On The Hole
Blinder By The Hour
Wish To See No More
One Soul Less On Your Fiery List
Born Sandy Devotional
Love And Affection

There you go. Have a think about that. Believe me I've been thinking long and hard about many aspects of this album (and Calenture, and just turning my mind to what happens next) and I'm very happy with what's come out of the grinder in the end.

Wow - this is exciting.  I can't wait to hear it all - but I'm particularly looking forward to hearing "Blinder By The Hour" in its ITP incarnation.  Is it just me or do others hear the influence of Dylan in particular in this song?

Really looking forward to this – I'm half expecting it to sound like a completely different album, probably an even better one than it is already. And it's going to be fascinating hearing ITP and then Calenture straight afterwards.

Has Better Off This Way fallen off the album or just the list? Is BSD still an edited version?

Whoops - Better Off This Way is still there of course, I'll amend the list. BSD is full version.

Interesting decision to intersperse the added tracks rather than tack them on at the end.Familiar songs in different guises. It will sound quite different overall.I`m very much looking forward to this.

It's a different album now then? Sounds like a fine idea to me. Can't wait to hear it.

I'm liking the idea of the new track order - obviously don't know how it works in practice. 25 to 5 followed by Only One Life, for example, sounds like a more emphatic ordering than the original.

Also looking forward to hearing how Wish To See No More sounds with the band and how the Calenture songs were originally formulated.

Yes, it was a big decision whether to make a standard new improved + bonus tracks and in the end in the light of the remix it seemed to make sense to make an adjusted track listing (using some of Dave's philosophy of track order to guide us).

Could you expand on the "philosophy", Graham?

I assume you mean more than any specific proposed running order for this record of the types developed over time and reproduced in the BSD booklet, but rather a general approach to song sequencing to form a wholesome and satisfying album.

A general approach parts of which were documented in a letter or two from the time. Similarly, with the new mix Bruce re-read Dave's original guidance and followed that as much as he could.

I remember that in Hasselt this was playing over the PA and although I was quite well pickled in Hoegaarden I was very impressed. I'm actually more excited about this than Calenture, and Calenture has always been my favourite album.

Art work is extended booklet with many features of interest re the original recording and the re-issue.
I think the order that was playing in Hasselt was approximately the same as the one we've used and, while there were a few subsequent audio alterations, it was the remixed songs but not yet mastered. Rest assured the mastering approach was not to go loud, it's an old fashioned mix/master in that respect.

As somebody new to the Triffids music, I have to say I'm looking forward to this release but also completely in the dark as to what it will be like, which is an interesting position to be in. From what I've read I get the impression that 'In The Pines' is a more ''rootsy' album than 'BSD'. Is this correct or have I got things arse-about-face?
